Austrian theoretical physicist and philosopher who worked in Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, and Dublin.

He discovered the basic equation for quantum mechanics that bears the same relation to the mechanics of the atom as Newtons's equations of motion bear to planetary astronomy. But unlike Newton's equations Schrodinger's solutions are wave functions that can only be related to the probable occurrence of physical events.
