OMRI c.930 - c.869 BC King of Israel The father of Ahab, Omri is mentioned unfavourably in the Bible but is thought by modern scholars to have been one of the most important rulers of the kingdom.
He unified the warring tribes of Israel and made
Samaria his capital. He conquered Moab, and made an alliance with Tyre in Phonicia as a result of which foreign
customs crept into the Jewish kingdom.
