Wace, Anglo-Norman author, was commissioned by Henry II to write a history of England, the 'Roman de Brut' . It traces the history of Briton from the legendary Brutus the Trojan.

Its many additions, including the story of King Arthur's Round Table, helped increase the popularity of the Arthurian legends.
