RUBLEV
c.1365 - c.1430
Russian Painter

Rublev was one of the greatest Russian artists who painted ikones in symbolic-mystical expression for the Russian-Orthodox Church.

Andrey Rublev (or Rublyov) was a monk at Zagorsk and later in Moscow. Influenced by the Greek painter Theophanes who came to Russia from Constantinople Rublev painted in the Byzantine tradition, in which the spiritual essence of art was regarded as more important than naturalistic representation. His most famous work is the icon of the Old Testament Trinity.
