The origin of the Hittites is unknown, but we do know that they spoke an Indo-European language. They appeared
around 1900 BC in a land known as Hatti, (in modern Turkey) and their main city became Hattusha.
Several kingdoms flourished from about 1680 BC to about 1200 BC. The Hittites were more or less constantly at war and for a time their kdm became one of the leading states in the region, rivalling Egypt, Babylonia and Assyria. Eventually the last kdm became weak from migrations in the area. The final end came from attacks by the Sea people. |
