Casimir III
1310 - 1370
King of Poland
Casimir was called 'the Great' for his peaceful expansion of the Polish kingdom. Casimir initiated a personal union with Hungary and he strengthened Poland through treatises with Lithuania and Bohemia. Upon his death he left a country doubled in size, prosperous, wealthy and with great prospects for the future.

Domestically he codified Poland's unwritten constitution and law and founded the nation's first university at Cracow.
