ARIUS c.250 - c.336 Theologian in Alexandria Arius was a priest in Alexandria, Egypt. Arius was the author of the Arian controversy which taught that Christ was created - therefore not eternal - and different from the Father. Arius opponent, Athanasius, defended the orthodox interpretation of Trinity, saying that the Son is equal to the Father. Emperor Constantine called the Council of Nicaea in 325, where Arius was condemmed as heretical. |
