Columbus was one of the greatest seamen and navigators of all times, obsessed with
the idea of sailing west to reach the East.
Other people had believed this to be
possible before him but Columbus proved that it could be done.
In 1492 most thinking men in Europe were feeling gloomy about the future. Thirty years later a great renewal of human spirit had commenced. Columbus had not only found a new world, but his success had encouraged other discoveries and opened new windows to science and all knowledge. |
